A Vidarbha cyclonic circulation is driving the surge, with rains likely to stay active for several days before easing in early September.

  • Mumbai and Navi Mumbai saw widespread waterlogging and closures, including the Andheri subway, Kurla and BKC corridors, and the Sanpada underpass and Turbhe MIDC Road, while a wall collapse in Sakinaka killed one woman.
  • Delhi recorded its wettest August since 2010 at about 400 mm, with waterlogged roads and major traffic snarls, as forecasters expect active monsoon conditions to persist into next week.
  • Himachal Pradesh remains under orange and yellow alerts for heavy to very heavy rain through September 1 after a large August excess, with a sharp reduction signaled from September 2–4; Uttarakhand also has warnings in place.
  • Punjab and Haryana reported flooding, rising rivers and evacuations, with Indian Railways canceling 46 trains to and from Jammu, while a cloudburst in J&K’s Ramban killed three and left two missing.
