Overview

  • Heavy monsoon rains on July 3 triggered a landslide at the Munkatia sliding zone near Sonprayag, depositing debris that completely blocked the road to Kedarnath and forced authorities to halt the Kedarnath Dham Yatra.
  • Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered suspension of the entire Char Dham Yatra to prioritize pilgrim safety and directed disaster response teams to prepare for clearance operations.
  • Teams from the State and National Disaster Response Forces, along with local police and administration, rescued around 40 pilgrims trapped near Sonprayag and evacuated 254 pedestrians stranded on the Yamunotri route.
  • The Yamunotri road past Silai Band remains closed after a cloudburst on June 28 killed three people and left seven missing, with repair and search operations ongoing.
  • Officials have said that the pilgrimage will restart once weather conditions improve and obstruction removal on key routes is complete.
