The closures affect vital civilian and military access routes, with authorities targeting phased traffic restoration.

Arunachal Pradesh on Monday faced disruptions after a powerful landslide hit West Kameng district.

Overview

  • NH-2 between Kohima and Wokha was completely blocked by massive slides after heavy rain, leaving passenger and goods vehicles stranded.
  • In West Kameng, a landslide near Sapper Camp blocked roughly 120 meters of the Dirang–Tawang road and damaged two cars, according to local reports.
  • Officials reported no casualties, while video from the scene showed commuters reversing as boulders rolled down the slope.
  • District administration, police, Public Works Department and NHIDCL teams are clearing debris and arranging diversions for light vehicles.
  • The India Meteorological Department forecasts widespread rain through August 28, and local sources said traffic on the Dirang–Tawang stretch could resume Tuesday if conditions allow.
