Monsoon Landslides Damage Vacated Homes in Bhandup and Injure Commuters Near Kasara

Tracks at Kasara were cleared within 20 minutes after debris struck a local train coach

Overview

  • On July 22, a soil slide in Bhandup’s Khindipada caused portions of two already vacated houses to collapse and prompted the evacuation of three to four neighboring homes
  • Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, ward officials and an NDRF team swiftly secured the Bhandup slide site and reported no injuries
  • That night, debris from a hill collapse entered the third coach of Train No. N27 at Kasara station, injuring one passenger who received first aid and was taken to Kasara government hospital
  • Engineering staff inspected the tracks and declared them safe by 9:35 PM, allowing suburban and long-distance services to continue without disruption
  • A separate landslip near Kasara toppled a tree onto a moving local train, injuring two commuters and spurring calls for slope fencing and further safety measures
