The continuous monsoon rainfall in China on Monday night triggered a flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal.

  • Flash floods on the Bhotekoshi River early on July 8 destroyed the Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi, severing Nepal’s main trade link with China.
  • More than 95 rescuers, including Nepal Army and Armed Police Force personnel supported by military helicopters, are searching for 18 missing people, among them 12 Nepali and six Chinese nationals.
  • Landslides and severe erosion have blocked the Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi section of the Pasang Lhamu Highway, isolating the Rasuwa district.
  • The floods swept away several homes, trucks awaiting customs inspections and eight electric vehicles at a charging station in Timure.
  • Preliminary assessments show damage to hydropower facilities such as Rasuwagadhi and Trishuli 3A, suspending up to 200 megawatts of electricity generation.
