Overview

• IMD has extended heavy-rain warnings through August 31 for parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other regions.
• The Vaishno Devi route remains shut after a landslide near Ardhkuwari killed 34, with helicopter and e‑car services suspended and pilgrims stranded in Katra.
• Security forces and disaster-response teams have evacuated more than 3,500 people in Jammu district and thousands more elsewhere, with air and boat operations continuing.
• Jammu recorded about 380 mm of rain in 24 hours as rivers including the Chenab, Tawi, Basantar and Ujh ran above danger marks, washing away bridges and flooding low-lying areas.
• Transport and communications are widely disrupted, with Northern Railway canceling 22 trains, key highways closed and mobile internet cut in parts of the Kashmir Valley.
