Monsoon Death Toll Reaches 101 in Himachal and Uttarakhand

Overview

  • Himachal Pradesh reports 80 fatalities, including 52 from cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods and 28 from road accidents, with 28 people still missing in Mandi district.
  • Uttarakhand has recorded 21 deaths and nine missing since June 1, with Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Rudraprayag among the hardest hit districts.
  • About 250 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Army, ITBP and local volunteers are deploying drones and sniffer dogs in ongoing search operations.
  • More than 235 roads remain blocked in Himachal, 174 water supply schemes are disrupted and hundreds of transformers and bridges have been damaged, with losses nearing ₹700 crore.
  • Alerts remain in force through July 10 as authorities warn of further heavy downpours and elevated risks of landslides and flash floods.
