Monica Lewinsky Proposes Constitutional Amendments Including Ban on Presidential Self-Pardons

Monica Lewinsky has proposed a series of constitutional amendments in a Vanity Fair op-ed, including a ban on presidential self-pardons, mandatory background checks for presidents, no suspensions of the U.S. Constitution, a retirement age for elected officials, elimination of the Electoral College, and codification of a woman’s right to an abortion.
Her proposal to ban presidential self-pardons is a direct response to former President Donald Trump, who is currently facing 91 criminal charges and is campaigning for re-election.
Lewinsky also called for a retirement age for politicians, arguing that long-term decisions can impact citizens, the nation, and the world for years after a politician has served their time in office.
She also proposed the abolition of the Electoral College, mandatory background checks for presidential and congressional candidates, and an absolute prohibition on suspending the Constitution for any reason, even under martial law.
Lewinsky's proposals come amid ongoing discussions about the 14th Amendment clause that disqualifies anyone from holding public office if they engage in an insurrection or give aid to insurrectionists.
