MongoDB Names CJ Desai CEO, Expects to Top Q3 Guidance

The planned handover follows succession talks that led Dev Ittycheria to decline another five-year commitment.

Overview

  • Desai takes over as chief executive on Nov. 10 after leaving Cloudflare on Nov. 7, and Ittycheria will remain on MongoDB’s board.
  • MongoDB said unaudited results indicate it will exceed the high end of fiscal Q3 guidance for revenue, non-GAAP operating income, and non-GAAP EPS.
  • The company’s prior Q3 outlook topped out at $592 million in revenue and $0.79 in adjusted earnings per share, with final results due Dec. 1.
  • In the July quarter, revenue rose 24% to $591 million and the net loss narrowed to $47 million, with shares up about fifteenfold since the 2017 IPO.
  • Desai, a former Cloudflare product and engineering president and ex-ServiceNow operating chief, has set a $5 billion-plus revenue ambition and emphasized MongoDB’s role in powering AI-driven applications.
