Upon his return, Shaw is sent to a retirement home where he remains until news of Godzilla attacks rekindle his determination.
In the present timeline, Shaw, along with character May, find themselves trapped in the Hollow Earth following a failed attempt to close the Titans' entrances to Earth.
Cate Randa, initially thought to be dead, is found alive in the Hollow Earth and is saved from a Titan by Dr. Keiko Muira, who is revealed to have survived a previous incident and has not aged due to time dilation in the Hollow Earth.
