Overview
- The three museums announced the alliance on Friday, October 30, 2026, agreeing to treat their holdings as a shared collection and to integrate curators and programs across Hong Kong, New York and Paris.
- A joint steering committee made up of the three directors, department heads and curators will meet monthly, with the first annual in-person meeting scheduled at MoMA in November 2026.
- Operational steps are set now: selected works from M+ will go on long-term loan to MoMA beginning in late 2027 and a long-term Centre Pompidou gallery at MoMA is planned to open in 2028.
- Leaders say the partnership is driven by goals to widen access to regionally specific holdings such as M+’s contemporary Chinese art, reduce duplication and shipping emissions, and share research and conservation resources.
- Together the institutions will steward hundreds of thousands of objects, reach roughly 10 million in-person visitors and 125 million online users, and fold Pompidou and M+ curators into MoMA’s C‑MAP while M+ launches an M+ Academy in November 2026.
