Moldova’s Ruling PAS Claims Narrow Win as Opposition Challenges Results

Disputed diaspora voting fuels immediate legal challenges.

Overview

  • Election officials recorded 236 election‑day violations, citing ballot photography, banned campaigning, ballot damage or removal, suspected vote buying and obstruction of election bodies.
  • With nearly all ballots counted, PAS secured about 50% of the vote and roughly 54–55 seats, supported by a strong diaspora showing.
  • Opposition figures led by Igor Dodon filed appeals and staged a brief protest in Chisinau, alleging fraud at overseas polling sites and asserting they prevailed inside the country.
  • Authorities operated 301 polling stations abroad but only two in Russia and 12 in Transnistria, and the CEC refused accreditation to more than 30 organizations and 120 experts.
  • Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said discussing a settlement for Transnistria is almost impossible under Moldova’s current leadership.
