Moldova’s Election Commission Bars Pro‑Russian ‘Heart of Moldova’ From Parliamentary Ballot

Acting on a court order tied to probes into bribery and illegal financing, the election authority forced the Patriotic bloc to rework its candidate list days before the 28 September vote.

Overview

  • The Central Appeals Court in Chisinau on 25 September approved a 12‑month restriction on Heart of Moldova’s activity at the Justice Ministry’s request.
  • On 26 September the CEC voted 6–3 to strike the party from the race and removed its nominees from the Patriotic bloc list, which must be resubmitted within 24 hours with gender balance, officials said.
  • Party leader Irina Vlah rejected the allegations as fabricated by the ruling PAS, and Patriotic bloc members and supporters protested during the CEC session.
  • Bloc candidate Vlad Batrincha filed a Constitutional Court appeal challenging legal amendments that permit activity restrictions on parties.
  • On 27 September the CEC also disqualified the pro‑Russian party Moldova Mare over suspected illegal financing, while the digital minister separately accused Russia of a cyberattack on the CEC days before the vote.
