Moldova’s Constitutional Court Validates Sept. 28 Parliamentary Election Results

The decision clears the way for the Party of Action and Solidarity to keep its majority.

Overview

  • Court chair Domnica Manole announced the ruling after reviewing the Central Election Commission’s report on the vote.
  • The opposition Patriotic Bloc had urged annulment, alleging misuse of administrative resources, government influence over institutions, censorship through disinformation laws, and unequal conditions for competitors.
  • Validation affirms preliminary tallies that gave the ruling party 55 of 101 seats, with the Patriotic Bloc at 26, Alternative at 8, and Our Party and Democracy at Home at 6 each.
  • Opposition complaints also focused on voter access, citing only two polling sites with 10,000 ballots in Moscow and reported obstacles for residents of Transnistria, where about 12,000 of roughly 270,000 eligible voters participated.
  • Representatives of the Alternative bloc and Our Party did not take part in the Constitutional Court session, while the ruling party argued for certification.
