Moldova Records Five Drone Incursions During Overnight Russian Attacks

Defence officials say the brief crossings signal cross-border spillover that poses a danger to public safety.

Overview

  • Moldova's Defence Ministry recorded five unauthorised drone crossings during the night of Thursday into Friday, October 15–16, with each object entering from Ukraine and leaving minutes later in northern and south-eastern border areas.
  • Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi separately said a jet-powered drone flew over the Ștefan Vodă district on the night of October 14–15 and that the military assessed that craft as Russian after it spent about eight minutes over Moldovan territory.
  • Unlike the September 30 incident when a drone crashed near Hîrbovăț and exploded after striking a telecommunications mast, the October 15–16 incursions produced no reported crashes, explosions, or physical damage.
  • Moldovan officials, reporting routes and exact times via the Defence Ministry and local media TV8, have warned that any drone in national airspace threatens security and could endanger civilian lives.
  • The events underscore spillover risks from the Russia-Ukraine war near Odesa and Transnistria and may prompt stepped-up airspace monitoring and security measures along Moldova's border with Ukraine.
