Overview

• Union Minister Manohar Lal unveiled the initiative at a national event in Sonipat attended by state ministers, mayors, commissioners and senior MoHUA officials.
• Nearly 300 memoranda of understanding were signed simultaneously, formally kicking off mentor–mentee action plans with defined milestones.
• Mentor cities were drawn from the Super Swachh League and other top performers in recent Swachh Survekshan cycles, while mentees were selected from the lowest state rankings with geographic proximity in mind.
• Implemented under Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban, the programme emphasizes peer learning, knowledge transfer and handholding to replicate proven sanitation and waste management practices.
• MoHUA will provide strategic guidance and policy support during the 100-day phase, with measurable progress to be assessed in the next national survey.
