Overview

  • A GIGN helicopter extracted Amra from the high-security Condé-sur-Sarthe prison at around 7:30 a.m. for transfer to the Palais de Justice in Paris under reinforced security.
  • Junalco judges questioned him for the first time about the violent May 2024 escape that killed two prison officers and injured three others.
  • Amra eluded capture for nine months after an ambush at the Incarville toll station before being arrested in Bucharest in February and extradited back to France.
  • Penitentiary unions and Interior Ministry officials had criticized the decision to bring him to Paris in person, calling instead for videoconference hearings or on-site questioning.
  • He is charged with organized crime-related murders and is one of about forty suspects implicated in the sprawling investigation.
