Overview

  • After day-to-day hearings over roughly 10 days, the court delivered its order on Monday, finding bail inappropriate given the active investigation and the seriousness of the alleged offences.
  • The court also noted the risk of evidence tampering or witness influence if Majithia were released, given his influence.
  • Majithia remains in judicial custody at New Nabha Jail in Patiala, with custody extended until August 28 by an August 14 order.
  • The Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested him on June 25 in a disproportionate assets case alleging laundering of about ₹540 crore of "drug money" through various channels.
  • The FIR stems from a Punjab Police special investigation team probe into a 2021 NDPS case based on a 2018 anti-drug STF report, and his counsel says they will now seek relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
