Modulate Raises $25 Million to Expand Velma Audio-Detection Platform

The cash will let Modulate scale Velma’s suite of 100-plus small audio models to improve real-time deepfake detection, expand on-device privacy deployments, expand enterprise integrations.

Overview

  • Modulate announced the $25 million round led by Future Ventures on Monday, Sept. 28, bringing the company’s total funding to about $60 million and signaling new growth capital for hiring and product expansion.
  • Velma is Modulate’s audio-native Ensemble Listening Model that runs more than 100 specialized small models to analyze raw voice signals for emotion, tone, intent and whether speech is synthetic rather than relying only on transcripts.
  • The company says Velma analyzes over 10 million hours of audio per month and has processed more than 600 million hours in total, and it reports top rankings on public benchmarks and a 98.9% deepfake-detection figure with a 1.1% equal error rate.
  • Modulate plans to use the funding to add staff, broaden APIs and SDKs, and improve on-premises and on-device deployment options so regulated customers can run real-time detection and compliance tools without sending raw audio to the cloud.
  • Demand for tools that spot voice deepfakes and AI-driven fraud is rising in call centers, healthcare and enterprise security, so the key near-term signs to watch are wider customer adoption and independent benchmark tests to verify Modulate’s performance claims.
