Modi, Zelenskyy Hold Second August Call Ahead of Putin Meeting at SCO Summit

  • India reaffirmed its steadfast and consistent support for a dialogue-driven, peaceful settlement of the Ukraine war and pledged all possible help for the earliest restoration of peace, according to the PMO.
  • Zelenskyy told Modi he had briefed him on discussions in Washington with President Donald Trump and European leaders, reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to meet Putin, and called for an immediate ceasefire.
  • The call came on the eve of Modi’s scheduled bilateral with Vladimir Putin at the SCO Summit in Tianjin, with a Kremlin aide saying the meeting is set for Monday after the SCO Plus session.
  • This was the leaders’ second phone conversation in August, following a call on August 11 that also focused on paths to end the conflict.
  • Modi and Zelenskyy reviewed India–Ukraine ties, discussing exchanges of visits and plans to convene the Joint Intergovernmental Commission to deepen cooperation.
