Modi Unveils Rs 62,000-Crore Youth Package, Launches PM-SETU to Upgrade 1,000 ITIs

The rollout links industry-managed skilling hubs to jobs through national reforms with immediate support for Bihar’s youth.

Overview

  • PM-SETU launches with Rs 60,000 crore to modernise 1,000 government ITIs via a 200-hub and 800-spoke model run by industry partners with World Bank and ADB co-financing, beginning with a focus on Patna and Darbhanga.
  • The government inaugurated 1,200 vocational skill labs across 400 Navodaya Vidyalayas and 200 Eklavya Model Residential Schools in 34 states and UTs, covering 12 high-demand sectors and training 1,200 vocational teachers.
  • Bihar-specific measures include a Rs 1,000 monthly stipend for two years for about five lakh graduates, interest-free education loans up to Rs 4 lakh under a redesigned student credit card scheme, the launch of Bihar Yuva Ayog, and the inauguration of Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University.
  • NIT Patna’s Bihta campus was dedicated with capacity for 6,500 students and facilities such as a 5G use-case lab, an ISRO-linked Regional Academic Centre for Space, and an innovation and incubation centre, alongside foundation stones for Rs 160 crore in new facilities at four Bihar universities under PM-USHA to benefit over 27,000 students.
  • More than 4,000 Bihar government recruits received appointment letters and Rs 450 crore in scholarships was transferred via DBT to 25 lakh Class 9–10 students, as the event also honoured 46 national ITI toppers at the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh.
