Modi Unveils Rs 5,127-Crore Arunachal Package With Hydropower, Frontier Highway Push

The rollout pairs two NEEPCO-led dams with border-village plus highway upgrades to align development with security along the frontier.

Overview

  • Foundation stones were laid for the Heo (240 MW) and Tato-I (186 MW) hydropower projects in the Siyom/Yarjep sub-basin, a combined 426 MW costing about Rs 3,689–3,700 crore with roughly 1,803 million units projected annually.
  • The dams will be developed by NEEPCO in partnership with the Arunachal Pradesh government, with the state set to receive free power worth over Rs 98 crore plus more than Rs 16 crore annually for the Local Area Development Fund after commissioning.
  • Modi inaugurated an integrated convention centre in Tawang under PM-DevINE, built for about Rs 145–147 crore and designed to host over 1,500 delegates.
  • Ten additional projects worth about Rs 1,291 crore include measures to advance the 1,830-km Frontier Highway near the McMahon Line plus Phase 2 of the Vibrant Village Programme covering 122 border settlements.
  • The Prime Minister addressed a public meeting in Itanagar, met traders on GST rate rationalisation, and then travelled to Tripura to inaugurate redevelopment at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple under the PRASAD scheme.
