Modi Unveils Rs 34,200-Crore Projects in Gujarat to Drive Port-Led Growth

The Bhavnagar programme pairs nationwide port upgrades with energy, road and healthcare investments to reinforce a push for self-reliance.

  • Maritime works worth over Rs 7,870 crore include the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal, new container capacity at Kolkata and Paradip, the Tuna Tekra multi-cargo terminal, upgrades at Ennore and Chennai, coastal protection at Car Nicobar, a green bio-methanol plant at Kandla and ship repair facilities at Patna and Varanasi.
  • State projects totalling about Rs 26,354 crore span the HPLNG regasification terminal at Chhara, Acrylics and Oxo Alcohol at the Gujarat IOCL refinery, the 600 MW Green Shoe initiative, PM-KUSUM 475 MW solar feeder, the 45 MW Badeli solar plant, solarisation of Dhordo, four-laning of 70 km of national highways and hospital expansions in Bhavnagar and Jamnagar.
  • At a rally after a Bhavnagar roadshow, the Prime Minister framed the package around Atmanirbhar Bharat, calling foreign dependence India’s “main enemy” and urging that “chips or ships” be made in India.
  • He announced sector reforms including infrastructure status for large ships, a shift to “One Nation, One Document” and a unified port process, alongside a recast of five maritime laws to streamline shipping and port governance.
  • He reviewed the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal and conducted an aerial survey of the Dholera Special Investment Region to track progress on heritage and industrial development.
