Modi Unveils Rs 34,200-Crore Projects in Bhavnagar, Inaugurates Mumbai Cruise Terminal

The package advances port-led growth under an Atmanirbhar Bharat pitch.

Overview

  • At the 'Samudra se Samriddhi' event, the Prime Minister launched a nationwide maritime bundle worth about Rs 7,870 crore, including the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock.
  • He laid foundation stones for container and cargo upgrades spanning Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, Paradip, Kamarajar (Ennore), Chennai, Car Nicobar, Deendayal Port (Kandla), Tuna Tekra, and ship-repair facilities at Patna and Varanasi.
  • In Gujarat, projects totaling over Rs 26,354 crore were inaugurated or launched, covering the HPLNG regasification terminal at Chhara, IOCL’s Acrylics & Oxo Alcohol project, PM-KUSUM’s 475 MW solar feeder, the 45 MW Badeli solar plant, hospital expansions, and four-laning of 70 km of national highways.
  • Modi’s address stressed self-reliance in shipping, noting India pays roughly Rs 6 lakh crore annually to foreign carriers and recalling that the share of trade on India-made ships fell from about 40% to 5% over five decades.
  • He held a roadshow in Bhavnagar, reviewed exhibits at the venue, conducted an aerial survey of the Dholera Special Investment Region, and visited the National Maritime Heritage Complex site at Lothal.
