Modi Unveils Over Rs 5,100 Crore in Northeast Projects, Lays Foundation for Two Arunachal Hydropower Plants

The launches advance a Northeast strategy focused on clean power, border connectivity, tourism under central schemes.

  • In Itanagar, Modi laid foundation stones for NEEPCO–Arunachal JV hydropower schemes Heo (240 MW) and Tato-I (186 MW), costing about Rs 3,689–3,700 crore with expected output near 1,803 million units annually plus free power and local development funds for the state.
  • He inaugurated a convention centre in Tawang built under PM-DevINE for about Rs 145–147 crore, a venue designed to host more than 1,500 delegates.
  • The package included over Rs 1,290 crore in projects spanning connectivity, health and fire safety, with officials also flagging the proposed 1,830-km Frontier Highway and Phase-2 of the Vibrant Village Programme.
  • Later in Tripura, he inaugurated redevelopment at the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple under the PRASAD scheme, adding new pathways, drainage and a three-storey complex to lift pilgrimage tourism.
  • The visit featured outreach to traders on GST rate changes and “Vocal for Local,” while reporting noted continuing protests over surveys for the separate Siang Upper Multipurpose hydropower project.
