Overview

• Modi inaugurated a ₹450 crore terminal at Thoothukudi Airport to raise annual capacity from 300,000 to over 2 million passengers with energy-efficient design features.
• Two highway projects were dedicated—a ₹2,350 crore four-lane expansion of NH-36’s Sethiyathope–Cholapuram stretch and a ₹200 crore six-lane upgrade of the NH-138 port road—to cut travel times and boost cargo flow.
• The prime minister commissioned North Cargo Berth-III at V. O. Chidambaranar Port, built at ₹285 crore with a handling capacity of 6.96 MMTPA to enhance maritime trade.
• Three railway projects were dedicated, including the electrification of the 90 km Madurai–Bodinayakkanur line and the ₹650 crore doubling of the Nagercoil Town–Kanniyakumari section to improve freight and passenger services.
• He laid the foundation stone for a ₹550 crore 400 kV transmission line linking Kudankulam nuclear units 3 and 4 to Thoothukudi-II and highlighted that over 100,000 households have applied under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana with more than 40,000 rooftop solar installations completed.
