Modi Unveils 52 Projects Worth ₹2,200 Crore in Varanasi

Ahead of the next electoral cycle, the visit underscores Modi’s integrated approach to development.

Overview

  • Fifty-two projects span roads, power systems, schools, hospitals, tourist sites, urban renewal, heritage conservation and police infrastructure to drive holistic transformation in Varanasi.
  • The prime minister released the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, transferring over ₹20,500 crore directly into the accounts of 9.7 crore farmers.
  • Transport upgrades include the widening of the VaranasiBhadohi and Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar roads, inauguration of a railway overbridge at Hardattpur and groundwork on other major corridors to ease congestion.
  • Under the Smart Distribution Project, foundation stones were laid for underground electrical cabling and related power infrastructure works worth over ₹880 crore.
  • Tourism and heritage enhancements feature the redevelopment of eight riverfront kuccha ghats and restoration and water purification works at Durgakund.
