Modi Unveils 184 Eco-Friendly Multi-Storey Flats for MPs Near Parliament

Officials say the ahead-of-schedule complex trimmed taxpayer costs by Rs 46 crore under advanced monolithic construction methods

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 184-unit Type-VII residential complex at Baba Kharak Singh Marg on August 11, planting a Sindoor sapling and interacting with the shramjeevis who built the flats.
  • Each approximately 5,000 sq ft flat includes dedicated office areas, staff quarters and a community centre to support MPs’ residential and official functions.
  • The complex meets GRIHA 3-star and NBC 2016 standards, features earthquake-resistant, Divyang-friendly designs, renewable energy systems, waste-management facilities and a comprehensive security network.
  • Modi christened the towers Krishna, Godavari, Kosi and Hooghly to underscore national unity, delivering a veiled dig at the Opposition over the Kosi reference while urging MPs to celebrate festivals and maintain cleanliness on the premises.
  • Although the flats are presented as ready for use, formal occupancy and allocation schedules have yet to be announced by the House Committee.
