Modi to Virtually Inaugurate 75 Redeveloped Railway Stations Across India

The coordinated rollout showcases the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’s shift from planning to finished transport hubs and signals broader rail upgrades and local economic ties.

Overview

  • On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate 75 redeveloped stations by video link with the main ceremony at Jalandhar Cantonment and a separate flag-off of India’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind.
  • The redevelopments use customised master plans that blend regional architecture with modern facilities such as wider circulation areas, 12-metre foot overbridges, lifts, escalators, AC waiting halls, digital information displays and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
  • Selected high-profile projects in the rollout include Hi‑Tech City station in Hyderabad (redeveloped for about ₹26 crore), Jaisalmer (reported near ₹140 crore) and Paralakhemundi in Odisha (₹17 crore), with many states holding local ceremonial events.
  • Railway ministry figures cited in coverage say 261 stations are complete so far with targets of 400 by the end of 2026 and 700 by the end of 2027, and the programme links station retail spaces to the One Station One Product scheme to boost local businesses.
  • The inauguration marks the next phase of a programme launched in December 2022 that follows large foundation‑stone rounds in 2023–24 and complements other rail upgrades such as Vande Bharat services, safety systems and station sustainability measures like solar and rainwater harvesting.
