Overview

  • Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the 272 km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link and its signature Chenab and Anji Khad bridges on June 6.
  • The rail link features the world’s highest railway arch bridge spanning the Chenab River at 359 m above the riverbed and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge over the Anji Khad gorge.
  • Constructed at a cost of ₹43,780 crore, the USBRL includes 36 tunnels totaling 119 km and 943 bridges across rugged Himalayan terrain.
  • The route will cut travel time between Katra and Srinagar to under three hours, with two Vande Bharat Express trains commencing six-day-a-week service from June 7.
  • All-weather connectivity is expected to boost tourism, trade and economic growth by improving market access and easing transport of local goods.
