Modi to Review MumbaiAhmedabad Bullet Train Progress at Surat Station on Nov. 15

The Japan-funded corridor targets a phased opening from 2027 to 2029 under NHSRCL oversight.

Overview

  • NHSRCL reports more than 326 km of viaduct completed, with 17 river bridges, 10 steel bridges, and around 400 km of pier work in place.
  • Over 400,000 noise barriers are installed along more than 206 km of track, and excavation continues on seven mountain tunnels in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.
  • The SuratBilimora stretch is among the most advanced, with civil structures and track-bed laid, and the service is projected to cut MumbaiAhmedabad travel to about 127 minutes once operational.
  • Station construction is progressing across the corridor, with Gujarat superstructures at an advanced stage, three elevated stations underway in Maharashtra, and ongoing work at the underground Mumbai terminus.
  • The 508-km project plans staged commissioning—Surat to Bilimora in 2027, extension to Thane in 2028, and full reach to Mumbai in 2029—within a Rs 1.08 lakh crore budget largely financed by JICA.
