Overview
- Organisers confirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate a two-day conference organised by the National Green Tribunal that brings together judges, environmental experts and senior officials.
- The event will include judicial representatives from 17 countries plus judges from India’s Supreme Court and high courts, district judges, ministry secretaries and state environmental bodies to exchange legal and governance practices.
- Speakers will focus on gaps in policy design, enforcement and implementation and explore ways courts, regulators and agencies can coordinate to close those gaps.
- NGT Chairperson Justice (Retired) Prakash Shrivastava urged a 'Whole of Society' approach stressing prevention at source, citizen awareness and technology adoption as central to cleaner air.
- The conference is linked to national air programs such as the National Clean Air Programme and the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan awards, which the government uses to rank and reward local air-quality performance.
