Modi to Open Navi Mumbai Airport and Metro-3 Final Stretch on Oct. 8–9

The visit follows a state push to name the new hub for D. B. Patil, now awaiting central approval.

Overview

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the rescheduled inauguration to Oct. 8–9 after a planned Sept. 30 visit was postponed.
  • With the final segment opening, the 33.5 km ColabaBandra–SEEPZ Metro-3 line will become fully operational, and the first phase of Metro Line-2B will be launched from Mandale to Chembur.
  • The Maharashtra government has formally sent a proposal to name the airport after D. B. Patil, which it says has received a positive response from the Centre but remains pending.
  • Agri–Koli and allied groups are escalating their campaign for the D. B. Patil name, with a planning meeting called for Sept. 28 in Navi Mumbai.
  • Air India Express plans to start Phase 1 operations with 20 daily departures to about 15 cities as the greenfield airport’s first phase targets roughly 20 million passengers and 0.5 MMT of cargo annually.
