Modi to Launch Rs 18,000-Crore Project Package in Assam on Sept. 13–14

The visit caps a state push to bundle road, medical, biofuel investments into a single launch window.

Overview

  • The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati at 4:20 pm on September 13 and attend Bhupen Hazarika’s centenary programme, which will feature the release of a Rs 100 commemorative coin.
  • On September 14 in Mangaldai, he will lay the foundation of Darrang Medical College with a nursing college and a GNM school, a healthcare package valued at Rs 567 crore.
  • He will also initiate major connectivity works including the Narengi–Kuruwa bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road, which will traverse Kamrup and Darrang before extending into Ri-Bhoi in Meghalaya.
  • At Numaligarh Refinery, he is slated to dedicate a bio-ethanol plant reported at about Rs 4,200 crore, with state reports also noting a planned foundation for a polypropylene plant.
  • The Assam government estimates the combined value of inaugurations and foundation stones at roughly Rs 18,000–18,531 crore, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says preparations are on track.
