Modi to Launch Pulses Self-Reliance Mission on Oct. 11, Targeting 350 Lakh Tonnes by 2030–31

The ₹11,440 crore effort relies on MSP procurement, mass seed distribution plus new processing capacity to curb imports.

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil the Self-Reliance in Pulses Mission alongside the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana at Pusa, New Delhi, with more than 1,100 agri-linked projects worth about ₹42,000 crore also set for inauguration.
  • The plan seeks to expand pulses area from 27.5 million to 31 million hectares and lift productivity from roughly 880 kg/ha to 1,130 kg/ha, raising output by about 40% to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030–31.
  • Central agencies Nafed and NCCF will procure 100% of registered farmers’ pulses at the Minimum Support Price to ensure assured offtake.
  • Operational measures include distribution of 1.26 crore quintals of certified seed and 88 lakh mini seed kits to accelerate adoption of high-yielding, disease-tolerant varieties.
  • The mission will back 1,000 processing units with subsidies of ₹25 lakh per unit, while the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana focuses on 100 low-productivity districts with targeted support for irrigation, storage, credit and diversification, monitored via a NITI Aayog dashboard.
