Modi to Launch Frontier Highway, Hydropower Projects and Border Village Push in Arunachal on Sept. 22
The rollout is framed as a development-security drive along sensitive frontiers.
Overview
- The prime minister will lay the foundation for the 1,830-km Frontier Highway that runs parallel to the McMahon Line from Bomdila to Vijaynagar.
- He will also lay foundation stones for the 186 MW Tato-I and 240 MW Heo hydroelectric projects on the Yarjep river.
- Phase 2 of the Vibrant Village Programme will be launched to deliver all-weather roads, 4G, TV connectivity and on-grid power to 122 border villages, including 67 along India–Myanmar and 55 along India–Bhutan.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned ₹2,205 crore for the VVP, and in August the Centre approved ₹8,146.21 crore for the 700 MW Tato-II hydropower project.
- Security has been tightened in Itanagar with road beautification underway ahead of the visit, and Modi is slated to inaugurate an integrated convention centre in Tawang.
