Modi to Launch Bengaluru’s Yellow Line Metro With Limited Three-Train Service

Three CBTC-equipped driverless trainsets will run at 25-minute intervals from the inauguration with a full 15-train roster scheduled for March 2026

Overview

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 19.15 km Yellow Line from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra on August 10, flag off three Vande Bharat Express services and lay the foundation for the 44.65 km Phase 3 Orange Line
  • Bengaluru Traffic Police will enforce diversions and parking bans across key routes from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm on inauguration day to manage crowds and VIP movements
  • With only three driverless CBTC trainsets ready, services will operate at 25-minute headways, carrying about 25,000–30,000 passengers daily versus the originally projected 200,000–300,000
  • A fourth trainset is expected imminently, which could cut headways to 20 minutes, and the remaining 11 sets are slated for delivery by March 2026
  • Commercial operations were approved by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety on August 2 after the Independent Safety Assessment cleared outstanding technical and software issues
