Overview
- At about 4:15 pm on Aug. 22, the Prime Minister will flag off services in Kolkata, ride from Jessore Road to Jai Hind Bimanbandar, and launch the Sealdah–Esplanade and Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay sections via video.
- The openings cover 13.61 km across three corridors: Green Line Sealdah–Esplanade (2.45 km), Yellow Line Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar (6.77 km) and Orange Line Hemanta Mukhopadhyay–Beleghata (4.4 km).
- Commercial operations are likely to start on Sealdah–Esplanade from Aug. 22, with the Yellow and Orange stretches anticipated around Aug. 25, according to metro officials’ guidance.
- Kolkata Metro plans 366 additional daily trips, with capacity gains for roughly 9–9.15 lakh more passengers; Howrah–Sealdah is set to drop from 40–45 minutes by road to about 11 minutes, and Esplanade–airport to about 30 minutes.
- Fares follow a distance-based slab reportedly ranging from ₹5 to about ₹70, including ₹5 from the airport to Jessore Road, ₹50 to Howrah and ₹70 to Sector 5/Karunamoyee.
