Modi to Inaugurate Navi Mumbai International Airport on Oct. 8 as Phase 1 Readies for Flights

Commercial service is slated for late November to early December, following an Oct. 8 inauguration.

Overview

  • The airport received its DGCA aerodrome licence on September 30, clearing a key regulatory step before opening.
  • Phase 1 launches with a single 3,700-metre runway and one terminal, sized to handle about 20 million passengers and 0.8 million tonnes of cargo annually.
  • IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express plan initial operations from the new hub once slot allocations are finalised.
  • Located at Ulwe near Panvel, the facility will connect to expressways and future metro and rail links, with new road routes via the Eastern Freeway and Atal Setu clocking roughly 70–95 minutes from much of Mumbai.
  • Maharashtra leaders have announced the airport will be named after DB Patil, a local figure known for championing land rights.
