Modi To Inaugurate Navi Mumbai International Airport On Oct. 8

Commercial service is slated for December, with security deployments and access links reaching readiness.

Overview

  • India’s aviation regulator granted the aerodrome licence on Sept. 30, and the AdaniCIDCO venture (74%–26%) will open the first phase at Ulwe under the name Loknete DB Patil Navi Mumbai International Airport.
  • Airlines including IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express plan initial domestic services as operations begin in late November to early December, with an initial 8 a.m.–8 p.m. window and a gradual ramp‑up of movements.
  • Security preparations include 1,840 CISF personnel, AI‑enabled surveillance, biometric screening and Digi Yatra; the state has approved a dedicated airport police station with 108 sanctioned posts.
  • Phase 1 features one runway and a terminal designed for about 20 million passengers per year, with a long‑term build‑out targeting roughly 90 million passengers and more than 3 million tonnes of cargo annually.
  • Connectivity plans highlight the Atal Setu road approach, the near‑ready Targhar suburban station, an Automated People Mover between terminals, proposed water‑taxi links and a newly ordered feasibility study for a Mumbai–airport tunnel.
