Modi to Inaugurate Navi Mumbai Airport and Metro‑3 on Oct 8–9 After Schedule Shift

The moves expand the region’s transport capacity by pairing a new hub airport with a fully open ColabaBandra–SEEPZ metro spine.

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the September 30 programme was postponed and reset for October 8–9 during the Prime Minister’s Maharashtra visit.
  • With the final stretch from Acharya Atre Road to Cuffe Parade opening, the 33.5 km Metro‑3 becomes fully operational, and the Prime Minister will also launch the first phase of Metro Line‑2B between Mandale and Chembur.
  • Navi Mumbai International Airport’s Phase 1 targets roughly 20 million passengers a year and 0.5 million tonnes of cargo, with a masterplan toward about 90 million passengers and 3.2 million tonnes under the Adani (74%)–CIDCO (26%) joint venture.
  • Air India Express plans an initial 20 daily departures from the new airport to around 15 domestic cities in Phase 1, scaling toward 55 daily departures including international routes by mid‑2026.
  • The state has proposed naming the airport after D. B. Patil with final approval pending at the Centre, as local groups continue to press for the tribute.
