Overview
- The September 13 event will see three services flagged off: a Sairang–Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express plus new links to Kolkata and Guwahati, according to railway officials.
- Regular Rajdhani operations start September 19 as a weekly service covering about 2,510 km in roughly 42–43 hours, with diesel traction up to Guwahati and electric onward to Delhi.
- The route received Commissioner of Railway Safety clearance in June after trial runs, confirming passenger readiness ahead of the formal launch.
- Built at an estimated cost of about ₹8,000 crore, the project includes 48 tunnels, 55 major and 87 minor bridges, and a 114‑metre pier bridge taller than the Qutub Minar.
- Indian Railways expects faster travel and lower logistics costs, with Aizawl–Silchar cut to about three hours by rail and an Aizawl–Guwahati journey shortened compared with the 16‑hour road trip.
