Modi to Inaugurate Bairabi-Sairang Railway After Mizoram CM’s Briefing on Myanmar Clashes
Prime Minister Modi has agreed to inaugurate the new Bairabi-Sairang railway following a briefing on recent Myanmar border clashes.
Overview
- Clashes between the Chin National Defence Force and the Chinland Defence Force in Myanmar’s Chin State forced over 4,000 residents to flee into Mizoram from July 3.
- Mizoram has sheltered more than 32,000 refugees since the 2021 Myanmar military coup and most of the recent arrivals have returned home following CNDF withdrawals.
- Prime Minister Modi agreed to inaugurate the Bairabi-Sairang rail line and the new Sairang station at the earliest convenience.
- Chief Minister Lalduhoma urged federal support for the Rs 9,265-crore Indradhanush Gas Grid pipeline project and the Aizawl-Thenzawl highway upgrade.
