Overview
- The 1.86 km six-lane bridge, part of an over 8 km project including approaches, was built for about ₹1,870–₹1,871 crore to link Mokama in Patna district with Begusarai.
- Constructed parallel to the ageing two-lane Rajendra Setu, the new structure is intended to restore heavy-vehicle movement that currently faces long diversions.
- The Ministry of Roads, Transport & Highways says the link will ease congestion and materially reduce travel time between districts in North and South Bihar.
- NHAI officials said work progressed only seven to eight months each year because the low-lying site is prone to annual flooding, highlighting construction challenges.
- During the Bihar visit covering Gaya, Patna and Begusarai, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate projects worth more than ₹13,000 crore, including a 660 MW power unit, a cancer hospital, a sewage plant, urban works and new rail services.
