Modi Sets Two-Day Bengal, Assam Tour to Launch Vande Bharat Sleeper and Kaziranga Corridor

The two-state itinerary blends high-profile transport launches with cultural outreach to showcase delivery in an election year.

Overview

  • On January 17 in Malda, West Bengal, the Prime Minister will flag off India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper linking Howrah and Guwahati and unveil rail and road projects worth over ₹3,250 crore.
  • In the evening, he will attend a mass Bagurumba performance by about 10,000 Bodo artistes in Guwahati as part of a cultural outreach program.
  • On January 18 at Kaliabor in Assam, he will perform bhoomi pujan for the ₹6,957 crore Kaziranga elevated corridor, an 86-km scheme with a 35-km wildlife corridor, town bypasses and highway widening.
  • He is scheduled to virtually flag off two Amrit Bharat Express trains — Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar and KamakhyaRohtak — and address a public meeting at Kaliabor.
  • The visit spans poll-bound West Bengal and Assam, with officials presenting the program as a combined push on connectivity, regional development and public engagement ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
