Overview
- India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Japan on August 29–30 and to China on August 31–September 1.
- In Japan, Modi will attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
- The two leaders will review the Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering defence, security, trade, economy, technology, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
- Modi will then visit Tianjin to attend the SCO Summit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, with bilateral meetings expected on the sidelines.
- China has billed the gathering as the bloc’s largest with about 20 leaders, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed Xi’s invitation to Modi earlier this week.
