Modi Says First Made‑in‑India Chip Will Hit Market by Year‑End as Incentive Pool Nears Full Commitment

Overview

  • Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan said about Rs 62,900 crore—roughly 97%—of the Rs 65,000 crore production incentive fund has been committed, leaving room for only two to three small additional projects.
  • Ten projects have been cleared under the India Semiconductor Mission across fabs, OSAT/ATMP, compound semiconductors and advanced packaging, with recent approvals in Odisha, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
  • Officials said the first commercially produced India‑made chips are expected before December from facilities now coming online, with multiple units vying to be first.
  • SEMICON India 2025 will run Sept 2–4 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating an expanded show featuring roughly 350 exhibitors, 1,100 booths, and four country pavilions.
  • Global players including Applied Materials, ASML, Micron, IBM, Lam Research, KLA, Infineon, SK Hynix, Merck, Tata Electronics and Tokyo Electron are participating, alongside 33 country delegations and more than 50 CXOs.
