Modi Opens Semicon India 2025, Unveils Vikram Chip and $18 Billion Project Pipeline

  • Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented ISRO’s Vikram 32-bit processor to the Prime Minister, a fully indigenous chip qualified for harsh launch vehicle conditions.
  • The government said 10 semiconductor projects worth about USD 18 billion are underway across multiple states, with nearly Rs 65,000 crore of the Rs 76,000 crore PLI already committed.
  • Modi announced that the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission and a restructuring of the Design-Linked Incentive scheme will be launched soon.
  • An end-to-end OSAT pilot line in Sanand, Gujarat, began operations on August 28 with CG-Semi expected to roll out initial chips, as officials also noted test chips from Micron and Tata are in production and commercial output is expected this year.
