Modi, Merz Inaugurate International Kite Festival at Sabarmati Riverfront

The visit prompted traffic diversions, civic clean-up, heightened security.

  • Ahmedabad Traffic Police closed the Sabarmati Riverfront (West) stretch from Vadaj Crematorium crossroads to Ambedkar Bridge on Monday for security during the leaders’ appearance.
  • Commuters were directed to an alternate corridor via Vadaj Crematorium, Vadaj Circle, Usmanpura crossroads, the central section of the Income Tax Overbridge, and Town Hall crossroads toward Paldi.
  • The Cadila Bridge central BRTS lane is shut for about 600 metres until January 30 for bullet train works, with BRTS buses using side roads by day and vehicle flows adjusted at night as required.
  • AMC and SRFDCL mounted 24-hour preparations with around 200 welcome hoardings, more than 1,200 cleaning personnel, river skimmers, decorative lighting, and promenade upgrades between the Metro Bridge and Vallabh Sadan.
  • Modi and Merz paid tributes at Sabarmati Ashram, interacted with artisans, and flew kites after the inauguration, as the festival hosts 135 kite fliers from 50 countries and continues in Ahmedabad through January 14.
