Modi launches Rs70,000 crore development drive in four states starting with Sikkim’s golden jubilee

Overview

  • On May 29, PM Modi will preside over Sikkim’s 50th statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok and release a commemorative coin, souvenir coin and postal stamp.
  • He will inaugurate and lay foundations for over Rs750 crore in Sikkim projects, including a 500-bed district hospital in Namchi and the Sangachoeling–Pelling passenger ropeway.
  • Later that day, the prime minister will lay the foundation stone for the Rs1,010 crore City Gas Distribution network in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, expanding piped natural gas and CNG access.
  • Day two includes the inauguration of Patna Airport’s new Rs1,200 crore terminal, foundation laying for the Rs1,410 crore Bihta civil enclave, dedication of power projects in Karakat and launch of Kanpur Metro and UP power substations.
  • State and local authorities have imposed traffic restrictions, school and office closures and tourist departure advisories to ensure smooth security arrangements across Sikkim and North Bengal.
